MEDICOM TOY BE@RBRICK Utagawa Kuniyoshi - Miyaukaikou Gojusan-biki 100% & 400% Bearbrick
Medicom Toy has returned with a new collectible utilizing the work of Utagawa Kuniyoshi. Kuniyoshi was one of the last great masters of the Japanese ukiyo-e style of woodblock prints and painting in the mid-1800s. His subjects ranged from landscapes and Kabuki actors to cats and mythical animals.
Offered in the company’s 100% and 400% sizes, the collectible is covered in Kuniyoshi’s Miyaukaikou Gojusan-biki, a work informed by dozens of cats in different poses. The print refers to the 53 train stations along the Tokaido, a coastal route that connected Edo to Kyoto in Japan during the Edo period. The name of each inn town from the route is transformed into the cats’ behavior. Each wood-colored BE@RBRICK — evoking the original Miyaukaikou Gojusan-biki woodblock print by Kuniyoshi — features the ukiyo-e style cat print in a wraparound design.
